I can see only playing one copy, but if he's near the bottom of your deck it can sometimes cause problems.
If I naturally draw him it saves me a Treasured Find, so it's only awkward when you draw them both.

Sultai Soothsayer has been an all-star in this deck and really ties things together.
Haven't had so much fun with a deck in a while.

What about adding Craterhoof Behemoth for another wincondition?

edit: I removed one Species Gorger for it.

Nice deck LVD. This deck gets much better with seance though. Seance also solves the problem with lab maniac because you can easily run 1 and get it back with seance.

Come join us in the witch maw thread to help refine the deck.

I'm not really a fan of him in this deck because we aren't running Elvish Visionary.
He can be a great finisher, but to win on the spot you likely need some Spiders, at which point you might already be ahead.

He's definitely better than the other fatties that are available.

Looking at Hakeem's list, the decks seem to be doing different things.
My Sultai build really tries to win with Spiders and Lab Maniac,
while the Witch Maw build looks to just gain a lot of value and card advantage using Séance.

Both decks have their merits.
I think the Sultai build is a little more consistent, but if Séance gets going the Witch Maw deck can do more powerful things.

I was referring to the list that me and babassoonist have been discussing. It is very similar to yours but has a but more power with seance. I don't think the mana is much worse either with all the trilands

In 3 out of 4 games after adding him I was behind and the Spiders where my only option to prolong the game, but no wincondition.
The only wincondition was Craterhoof Behemoth. Then there were 2 options: having 7 mana and lose or having 8 mana and win the game.

So here's my take on the new cards:

[manapie 90 -w u b -r g][/manapie]

Satyr's Find

A one vs. one deck for Magic 2015.

60 Cards (25 :creature: , 11 :instant: , 24 :land:)

Cost 7 cards
■■■■
Young Wolf1/1
■■■
Quest for the Gravelord
Cost 7 cards
■■■■
Satyr Wayfinder1/1
■■■
Treasured Find
Cost 8 cards
■■
Chasm Skulker1/1
■■■■
Necromancer's Assistant3/1
■■■■
Cultivate
Cost 5 cards
■■
Jalira, Master Polymorphist2/2
■■
Masked Admirers3/2
Vengevine4/3
Cost 6 cards
■■■
Sultai Soothsayer2/5
■■■
Rescue from the Underworld
Cost 3 cards
■■
Rune-Scarred Demon6/6
Sheoldred, Whispering One6/6
Land24 cards
■■■
Opulent Palace
■■
Sandsteppe Citadel
■■
Savage Lands
9
Forest
5
Island
5
Swamp

Basically, this deck wins in a number of ways.

1) it is perfectly happy trading creatures, at pretty much all times.
2) it ramps quickly, and fills the GY quickly.
3) most of the creatures are fine being in the graveyard and have utility while they are there. (the rest simply put creatures into the graveyard)

Instructions:

You will surely get what you need into the graveyard, so just keep dumping things into it. Your win con is pretty much rune scarred, into rune scarred, into Sheoldred. By that time, you've usually also flooded the board - with either blockers or attackers, depending on the opponent.

Have fun with it, and let me know what you think.

edit: I should also mention Jalira, she is really nasty in this deck. This is only the second deck I've managed to use her in where her ability is super relevant - this is due to the number of creatures that are good to sacrifice.

SS runs counter to what the deck is trying to do.

not win?

A little unfair, perhaps? Although, I did think the same thing, TBH.

I think alot of people on here are tired of dropping Spider Spawning in every G/B/(X) deck. Honestly, it is such a strong card in this format, it is hard NOT to put it into a deck like this (I'd drop the Quest for the Gravelord since it does nothing on its own, in case you were interested). I applaud him for creativity, even though Spawning would make the deck stronger.

The worst thing Spawning will do is stall out your opponent until your other wincon hits.

As an example, most Laboratory Maniac decks that I play against kill me with spiders before they deck themselves. I'd also drop the Quests for the Spiders.

@Barney - cute.

@Kryder - the card to switch out for SS is rescue from the underworld (otherwise the mana requirements of this deck would be outrageous), which IMO is underperforming in this build, although is still like it, and it has better synergy with this deck. That said, I was trying to do something else, and it works very well. So you're right to talk creativity here. I already have an excellent SS deck, this one's trying to do something else.

Edit: and you're both right, it would make the deck better. But, as I already said, SS doesn't do what I want this deck to do.

Hmmm... Actually, the best move would be -2 jalira, -1 Vengevine, +3 Spider Spawning.

I'll test it later, and report back. It's probably also, -1 Sheoldred, + 1 Craterhoof

And then, I'd replace quest with something else too. No sure what yet. Thinking about it today.

How spike is spike enough, lol?

edit: BTW, this would kill this deck's theme entirely. I set out to make a deck that runs Jalira in an interesting way. She's in the deck, the deck isn't going to be a killer. I'm already including a bad card on purpose, and then - even worse - I'm building around it. lol The fact that the deck could be better using some other card doesn't change the fact. I'm still looking for good ways to get value out of her, specifically.

Dead Weight was added because this deck gets really annoyed by those early game utility creatures. The card is almost as good as Shock in this format, so it's no surprise that we're playing it here.

The rest of the deck is pretty straight-forward, you have a ton of EtB creatures and the Species Gorger to let you bounce them up and recast them. If you don't disrupt their hand early and beat them to death with your little dudes, you have the Gorger/Horror lock as your endgame. Or you could just stick a Sheoldred. Either plan works. The deck draws a lot of cards, so it is very consistent from my testing so far.

I've gone with Genesis Hydra over Rune-Scarred Demon because it tutors something directly into play, but I may change my mind here. I also like how it's scalable so you can cast it earlier if you just need the blocker, and the deck has a fair number of hits on X=3.

Thoughts?

Any Updates on this list?
