Urg. So I wanted to start typing some junk in the world-building forum for the campaign world I'm working on but don't even know where to start with it. Anyone got any ideas for what would be a good jumping off point? Writing stuff down shouldn't be this hard.

Are you looking to have a thread to store it like a database, or a thread to discuss and expand?

I'm not entirely sure. To store it I guess. I've got a decent amount done on the broader ideas and things such as the races, countries/regions/whatever, various religions and the like but I still need a work done on the smaller things - establishing the cities and getting done the exact geography of places. I figure If I've made a start on it somewhere it will act as an incentive to work on it more (rather then just letting ideas pile up in my head).

Have you considered the wiki?

I've been too busy to keep expanding on my setting there lately. But it is useful in that you can spiderweb out, and then link things together. I also tend to use placeholder text so that I can keep the flow going rather than getting stuck on a name.

"The city of Stravenport is an expansive port city in what was once part of the human empire of ####. The city itself is located on the shores of the Westgate Bay at the mouth of the #### River. "

Etc

That might actually work better though I was kinda under the assumption that the wiki was for things that were currently going on or in use ya know? Things like 'Hoi Lan Fa' and 'Squiny's Sandbox' and things. Honestly I have no idea what's even on the wiki at the minute. Didn't even know you had uploaded a setting. Any chance I can get a link to that?

Its barebones... and I got 1/4 into desiging a steampunk freeform world but now I'm thinking I might overhaul it and go for two seperate storylines of a 5e game.

What are the plausible ways a character could act, if his dominant social trait is "Grew up with Faeries, and thus doesn't understand other humans"?

I guess the setting is officially called "Mythic Europe."
Ars Magica, so Medieval Europe with Wizards.

What traits do faeries have?

Well, they're generic folklore. I'm not a novice when it comes to this area, but as far as I've gathered, faeries are reconstructions of tales that people have told. So essentially, they live in cycles, retelling stories. Effectively, Arcadia is the land of dreams, so anything can theoretically happen. Given that faeries range from werewolves, vampires, selkies, leprechauns, trolls, merrows and elves, they can act in a wild variety of different ways. They interact with humans because they feast on their emotions. Say, a werewolf hunts humans because he sustains on their fear, while a trickster type might sustain on making humans flustered or dumbfounded. Maybe there's an entire forest that lives off of you feeling lost.

However, generally, I think the more sociable ones primarily fall into the trickstery, deal-making kind. I think the only defining trait of faeries is that they can't come up with new stories, so in some ways, they lack creativity, and individual thoughts. They only live to serve a script.

I sort of see the fae world as random, but consistent. While the human world is consistent, but varied.
And what sort of traits do thr humans there have? Typical stuff?

Only thing worth of note is that people with The Gift (such as said character) generates distrust from people around them. They have a supernaturally bad impression, kind of. So unless he has buildt up some trust, he is likely to be treated less well than other people.

Pick any number you like:

- Enjoys the company of other people, even if they dislike him. They feel more real somehow.
- Expects everything to behave like a storybook fable, and is surprised when it doesn't.
- Follows all kinds of odd superstitions in his daily life. Never crosses a doorway without clicking his heels together, puts a saucer of milk out before going to bed, that sort of thing.
- Has a habit of using long-winded parables to explain his train of thought. "Remember the story of the raven and the fig tree? No? Well..."
- Incredibly knowledgeable about the fae world.
- Likes watching other people go through their simple daily life.
- Suspects everyone to really be a faerie in disguise.
- Suspicious of mirrors and other thresholds.
- Talks like an Enid Blyton character. "Golly and gosh!"
- Very careful and specific about what he says. No ambiguity, especially when making promises.
- Wears whimsical elfin attire with a billion lucky charms. Play up the "weird fashion" angle.
