Hello all! It's been some time, and I truly apologize for that. It's been a hectic while and I've badly put off working on things, but in all good time, we find the time to take care of the commitments we've chosen.

The other day, this story came to me, and with a goodly amount of deliberation, I did what I could with it and now present to you a story called...

The Wolf And The Shepherd

This is good. I figured it was an Ossian wolf, but I haven't kept up enough with the story to know who it was. But yeah, it was really nice to have that calm little slice of life before going back into the chaos. We all need those moments sometimes.

I'm pretty curious now...

Thanks for sharing!

oh yeah I meant to come back to this. here's the rough version, not formatted into an actual narrative because I'm still pretty burned out on writing:

spoilers and whatnot

BRB... changing my LinkedIn summary to "soft, pink, and exposed." :D

Anyway, all kidding aside, I really, really like this piece! There are a couple really wonderful turns of phrase which really stuck with me. In particular, Sri Hara's reply here:

Barinellos wrote:
Realization came crashing down on him like a wave. He knew where he was. He knew what he was, and he knew why he could never go home again.

“I’m dead.”

The figure shook its head and smiled softly. “Things would be much simpler if that were true. There's so very much to discuss.”

And also his line about "It’s like a memory you've yet to live" -- really like that mental image, too. :)

I'll confess to being woefully slow on the uptake when it came to the reveal at the end, but the great thing is that I was able to fully enjoy the story regardless of that fact. It's beautifully written -- thanks so much for sharing!

This is interesting.

The title sounds like one of those fables that I've never quite gotten the hang of writing. I was half expecting some sort of moral, and Sri Hara seems like the kind of person who could teach one, but the lesson here is far more informational and practical.

Yet even at that, we're left with a major question. How is Jestopher dead, but not really dead? Thank you, Razorborne, for answering directly, because the Ossia story is deep enough that I'm not sure I'd have gotten there on my own. The parallels with some of the official canon leave me speculating on possible futures, too.

Meanwhile, a couple of phrases make it sound like Sri Hara has some sort of personal stake here, instead of just stumbling across someone new to the ropes. Is he actually going to come out of retirement for this?

And it's great to see Jestopher's conservative, long-term outlook look like the new kid on the block.

Thank you for sharing!

yeah, Barin and I went back and forth on the title for a while. another one we floated was "The Way Home", which sounds less fable-y, but I like the role-reversal of this one.
