In the last round of the Pro Tour, I posted the following submission:

Schara's Hideout

Schara's Hideout enters the battlefield tapped with two loyalty counters on it.

, : Untap Schara's Hideout, then transform it. Activate this ability only anytime you could cast a sorcery.

Schara, Planar Thief
Legendary Planeswalker - Schara
At the beginning of your upkeep, transform Schara, Planar Thief.
: Draw a card. Schara deals 2 damage to you.
: Draw four cards. For each card drawn this way, Schara deals 2 damage to each opponent and you gain 2 life.

Walkerlands. Land mode represents the planeswalker's base, transforming means the walker goes out to do their thing.

The general idea is actually pretty old. I once did a cycle of "walkerlands" a long, long time ago, but they didn't use DFC technology, instead being a mess of "until your next turn, this land becomes a XXXX planeswalker with..." templating that would look dreadful in an actual card. So I kinda retired the concept until this round, when I thought, "hey, here is an opportunity to do it right."

So here is the rest of the cycle:

Mortheon's Quarters
Legendary Land
Mortheon's Quarters enters the battlefield tapped with two loyalty counters on it.
: Add .
, : Untap Mortheon's Quarters, then transform it.
--
Mortheon, Candoli Vindicator
Legendary Planeswalker - Mortheon
At the beginning of your upkeep, transform Mortheon, Candoli Vindicator.
: Create a 1/1 white Soldier creature token with vigilance.
: Create a 6/6 white Archon creature token with flying and indestructible.

Jamir's Library
Legendary Land
Jamir's Library enters the battlefield tapped with two loyalty counters on it.
: Add .
, : Untap Jamir's Library, then transform it.
--
Jamir, Multiverse Archivist
Legendary Planeswalker - Jamir
At the beginning of your upkeep, transform Jamir, Multiverse Archivist.
: Target player puts the top three cards of their library into their graveyard.
: Target player puts the top twenty cards of their library into their graveyard.

Adrazon's Encampment
Legendary Land
Adrazon's Encampment enters the battlefield tapped with two loyalty counters on it.
: Add .
, : Untap Adrazon's Encampment, then transform it.
--
Adrazon the Warleader
Legendary Planeswalker - Adrazon
At the beginning of your upkeep, transform Adrazon the Warleader.
: Adrazon the Warleader deals 2 damage to any target.
: Adrazon the Warleader deals 10 damage to any target.

Ulra's Lair
Legendary Land
Ulra's Lair enters the battlefield tapped with two loyalty counters on it.
: Add .
, : Untap Ulra's Lair, then transform it.
--
Ulra, Bringer of the Bounty
Legendary Planeswalker - Ulra
At the beginning of your upkeep, transform Ulra, Bringer of the Bounty.
: Put a +1/+1 counter on each of up to two target creatures.
: Put four +1/+1 counters on each creature you control.

Dudibus remarked that the walkers changing back into lands was being too much of a slave to theme, though I'm not sure I agree. I think that while them going dormant keeps them safe from attacks, allowing the land to permanently change into a planeswalker might make them just cost too much.

Other things I haven't completely made up my mind about are the walkers having two loyalty abilities and the lands being legendary. I dislike legendary lands in general, and while the walkers having two abilities that are generally the same ability with different size makes them simpler, maybe them being DFCs allows for a little more differentiation between each ability, to make them splashier.

I can see the point Dudibus was making. It would make the cycle a little less clean, but you could make the re-flip triggers different. I also agree that making them double faced, there’s no reason you can’t give them a full compliment of abilities. You have the space, and it doesn’t add any more complexity really.

I appreciate trying to design them elegantly, but really, having to pay 4-6 mana each turn you want the planeswalker side is pretty steep. Being a planeswalker inherently comes with some downsides (it can be attacked, targeted with common forms of removal, etc.).

To me, I think the upkeep trigger would be better if it were more conditional. Transform it if a certain condition is met/not met.
