Just posting a small collection of cards I've made recently. Some were intended for the various game threads, but I missed my window to post them, and others are random tangents from from contest design brainstorming. First though, because the thread title inspired it:

Unused Ideas -
Sorcery
Target player draws cards equal to their maximum hand size, then discards that many cards.
Think, think, think...

(Interestingly, if you have no maximum hand size, you draw 0.)

Krark-Clan Smelting Works
Artifact Land
When ~ enters the battlefield, sacrifice an artifact.
:T:: Add :r: to your mana pool.
Sacrifice an artifact or Goblin,:t:: Add :r::r: to your mana pool.

Mortal Peril - :b:
Enchantment - Aura
Whenever a creature blocks or is blocked by enchanted creature, that creature gains deathtouch until end of combat.

(Realized this was more or less Mire Blight.)

Executioner's Stance -
Enchantment - Aura
Enchanted creature has defender.
Sacrifice ~: Destroy target creature blocked by enchanted creature.
He stands, silent and grim, while those around him wait for the axe to drop.

Live - :bg::gw:
Instant
Sacrifice a creature. Regenerate each creature you control.
—FUSE—
Learn - :ub::bg:
Instant
Whenever a creature dies this turn, scry 2.

Alpha Progenitor -
Creature - Shapeshifter
You may have ~ enter the battlefield as a copy of any token creature you control, ecxcept it gains "At the beginning of your upkeep, populate."

Vistas Realized -
Instant
Choose a basic land type. Search your library for a land of the chosen type and put it onto the battlefield tapped. All lands become the chosen type until end of turn.

Mirrored Expanse
Land
When ~ enters the battlefield, choose a basic land type. All lands become the chosen type until end of turn.
:t:: Add :1: to your mana pool.

Mimic's Mantle -
Enchantment - Aura
: Enchanted creature becomes a copy of target creature until end of turn.
Enchanted creature can't be blocked.

Future's Herald -
Creature - Spirit
Flying
Players play with the top card of their library revealed.
Spells that share a name with cards revealed by ~ cost :2: less to cast.

Yeah, I know you don't get the scry off your sacced critter, which was disappointing when I thought of it. Thanks for the Progenitor catch. Not sure how I missed that one.

Enchanted creature has defender, hexproof, and indestructible.

(Was my original thought for a "meditative" type of criteria, and I pictured a wise old monk. I don't like the name with the rules text now though.)

I'm not really a fan of Live/Learn's mana costs.
I think Alpha Progenitor may not cost enough. Maybe
Mimic's Mantle is definitely too cheap at present. The "unblockable" effect alone is worth about , and it has a great deal of synergy with the copy effect, because you just copy the biggest creature you can.

Ray of Sunshine is awesome. The only problem is Entwine text states "Both" not all, so more than two modes doesn't work.

Actually, that's just the reminder text. The comp rules actually state that you choose all modes. Reminder text just needs an update to match, which I assume they'd do if they ever used it again (on a 3+ mode card).

Gives new meaning to "fleet of foot".

Sorcery
Target player sacrifices a creature. Other creatures that player controls get +X/+0 until end of turn, where X is the sacrificed creature's power.
Whether the riots afterward stem from malicious glee or disgust at the mockery of justice, the murder and destruction are the same.

Judge the Prisoner's Carnival is neat in its versatility, though it's a bit weak on both ends. Regardless, I like the design, though I'd make it an instant so it has harsher consequences in multiplayer.

Swift Kick is ugly. It feels like a good idea, then you look at all the work required for what amounts to a combat trick that punishes multi-blocking, a rarity in Magic. There's nothing particularly wrong with the card mechanically; I just think it accomplishes its goals in an arduous manner.

Purloined Letter is nice and elegant, but possibly over the curve. It's a restricted two-for-one. I think giving it more card types to hit while upping the casting cost is ultimately the best idea, but it's possible that it could work at this cost. (It'll be better in Vintage than any other format, which is always an interesting quality for a card to have.)

First, thanks for the comments. I appreciate the feedback. :)

On Judge: I waffled on Instant vs Sorcery and went with the safer option. I thought that giving all your guys +X at the cost of a blocked critter for 2 could be bonkers. Sac a Cobblebrute for +5? Eesh.

On Swift Kick: I completely agree. My wordsmith and I spent a while trying to clean it up more and couldn't. If it hasn't just been a cute Multikicker idea for YMTC Fun I'd have scrapped it and moved on.

On Purloined Letter: I figured that since they get to choose what they exile, if anything, -and- you have to be able to pay for it, the two-for-one probably low enough in most instances. But I've been wrong before. :D Obviously the fact that you can cast it later increases that chance. Having to cast it that turn was a consideration.

On Judge: Forgot you could cast it as an instant during your own attack. That does change things.

On Letter: Didn't notice that they get to choose which card. That does change things.

Whenever a forest enters the battlefield under a player's control, look at the top 3 cards of that player's library. You may reveal a creature card among them and put it on top of that library.
Sometines even those truly lost somehow find their way home.
