Reading your answers I disagree with your reasoning for the Maro getting the curiosity effect, I concur that it should get it, but I feel that green can untap itself on attack because it is basically vigilance, but blue cards can't untap themselves for free, that either requires another card or maybe a serious mana cost to make it feel different from vigilance.

Curiosity is obviously a blue/green mechanic, so it's clearly the best answer.

The untap effect could be stretched to work since blue gets self-untap and green gets vigilance, but it's not "really" vigilance and self untap isn't in green's part of the color pie (according to MaRo's latest color pie articles). This was probably the next best answer, if the curiosity effect wasn't also an option.

I can't think of any monoblue card that untaps itself for free tho.

EDIT a gatherer search of blue cards that could untap themselves for free showed tidal force, murkfiend liege and merfolk skyscout, plus arguably horseshoe crab since it's cost is pretty irrisory, I stand corrected.

i dont think im allowed to tell you what trial 3 is, but if you guessed that the challenge was to design a pyramid cycle you wouldn't be too far off

:( I did not pass.

Judging from the generally assumed answers, I got these questions wrong:

32: I said I would use my intuition to cost a card so another department would like it.

52: I said that the red blue creature that sacrifices artifacts for cards was an uncommon.

and 62: While selecting an ability for the Simic, I read "proliferate", thought "populate" and consequently chose "undying." :face:

Yeah, I didn't make the cut either. I'll have to retake the test when it comes out with answers to see just what I got wrong. Looks like Silly is our NGA Standard Bearer for now.

Are you hoping Silly gets asploded?
That seems mean.

Sorry to all the folks who got cut. And Silly who's going to explode now.

Mark Rosewater talks GDS 3 Essay questions: Essay What You Will

Of note, I was right in wanting Cycling to be evergreen.

Its surprising to me that he stated that a blue-black evergreen was the low hanging fruit answer. My first thought and answer was also cycling; it honestly seemed like it made the most sense for the reasons he stated.

Honestly I think scry, cycling, and maybe a new third mechanic but unsure what, should be deciduous with sets choosing one to fit its needs.

My essay argued for those and either Raid or Unleash as both push combat in different ways and are somewhat intuitive for different reasons.

Nice to know MaRo also has reservations about prowess as evergreen.

It's interesting to note that there's not a single prowess creature in Ixalan. Maybe they're moving to deciduous already?
