D&D players are often older and stubborn in my experience. And afraid of change.

Stubborn and afraid of change describes MtG players exactly though.

Ah but our game is not played in black and white with pen and paper and ten year old rule books. We want the new shiny useable board.

You obviously have not tried to play D&D with someone who is obsessed by it recently then. To begin with, the rulebooks are currently less than a year since they were fully released (at least the monster manual and such). And they are very shiny. Or pretty. Or whatever synonym you want to use for "**** that art looks good".

I doubt those people are on the old boards though. And I have never played D&D because Its a black hole of time and social status.

I honestly was expecting them to eventually fix the horrible structural flaws, yeah. Not like... make them worse. Which is what they seem to have done.

But on the other hand I didn't expect the D&D crowd to stay resolutely glued to their totally broken forums. Anyone know what THAT'S about? Like the magic forums are totally depopulated but it seems like the D&D boards are really active.

Maybe they didn't have anywhere to jump ship to. NGA doesn't have every regular poster from the MTG side, but it took out quite a chunk from core cadres of YMtC, F&S, and DotP. Who knows how many would have weathered their way whatever the weather, whether they liked the format or not.

I thought there was some interpersonal drama early on or bad blood that made NGA less likely as a new home...

But yeah, the people who pushed for the move of YMTC, F&S/M:EM, and DotP really sucked the life out of the old board o_o It's kind of amazing in retrospect that we pulled it off.

Though actually the impression I've gotten is that DotP wasn't that huge until they came here, then at some point google ranked this forum as the major DotP spot, and the rest is history.

We actually had quite a vibrant DotP community, what we have left on NGA is only a fragment of that.

This brings back memories.

"mjack vs the forum"

"mjack is a cancer on the forum"

Bun threatening to insta-permaban me.

Good times.

:( To be serious for a moment, yes some of the communities have had their issues but the mothership truly was quite fubar.

I don't get twitter.

You and me both. I've never managed to make any sense of that place.

Hmm. Not to be rude or anything, but NGA doesn't seem particularly active to me.... especially not if compared to what WotC used to be like.

Is it seasonal, or is this about as active as it gets?

(Also, good to know I'm not the only one who doesn't get Twitter. ;) )

depends on the section, but YMtC seems to be running around normal.

we're obviously not as active as WotC used to be, but they had a lot of advertising streams that we just don't. I think we're fairly active considering.

It isn't the old wizards forums, but I like to think we make up for it in quality.

That said, I feel like most forums are starting to fade, are forums just becoming an outdated way of people communicating with each other? Do the young folks even search out these things? How on earth did I become a part of forum culture?

The games i played on the internet as a kid had forums. That was probably how I was introduced to them. Also clan sites for a lot of multiplayer games. I guess with more games running on platforms like steam and facebook and less on their own websites, its easier to not notice to existence of forums for games that even have any?

I don't understand twitter either, is there some way to look up the post that a person is replying to?

I just got Twitter myself to try to promote my YT channel and I have to agree that it's a weird place. Maybe I'm just old?
